Objective: determine the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices about self-care durant the pregnancy, in women that go to antenatal in the Subcentre Health of Ricaurte. Cuenca, 2013. Materials and methods: it’s a quasi-experimental study, the universe was constituted by 291 pregnancies that came to antenatal for the first time, token like a reference in the year 2012. The marked sample stayed constituted for 89 pregnancies that went to the Subcentre Health of Ricaurte in the months of March, April and May of the year 2013, who voluntarily consented to participate in the investigation. The compilation of the information was realized by means of the application of an interview structured that used two Precaps and Postcaps with 33 open and closed questions, prepared by the authors of the investigation; before the application of Postcaps the educational intervention was performed. The gathered information was deposited in an information base designed for the effect in the statistical software SPSS for Windows 15.0. The tabulation and presentation of data was realized by means of descriptive statistics in 2x2 tables. Results: the study showed that of the 89 pregnant women 44.9% indicated to have obtained their knowledge to self-care advice given by relatives, 19.1% for experiences experienced before, 15.7% by education provided by the staff of health and the 13.5% by other sources as the Internet, magazines and TV. The 58.6% have little knowledge about self-care during pregnancy, 31.9% have no knowledge, and only 9% have enough knowledge before receiving the educational intervention. After of the educational intervention, there was an increase in their knowledge, 92% know enough of the subject and 8% soon. Conclusions: confirmed the hypothesis that pregnant women who come to the subcentre Health of Ricaurte have a deficit of knowledge and inappropriate attitudes and practices of self-care in pregnancy and that the same change with an educational intervention was confirmed. With the help of the educational intervention was significantly improved self-care of the pregnant women in terms of: food, clothing, hygiene, activities, exercise, care of the newborn, etc. DECS: HEALTH KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES, PRACTICE; PREGNANT WOMEN; PREGNANCY; SELF CARE; HEALTH EDUCATION-METHODS.
