The loss of ovarian function causes estrogen deficiency so women enrolled with a large number of symptoms which alter their behavior, besides heart and bone complications present late and compromise the quality of life increased morbidity and mortality in this stage. Objective: To determine the degree of knowledge that women have about menopause and what their attitude response to the changes that triggers this new stage of life, valuing the main symptoms perceived by women. Methodology: Material and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study, study universe is 9336 women between 45 and 65 years attending outpatient gynecology at HVCM, the study sample is 370 women. The information was obtained by interview, after informed consent. The data obtained were analyzed in the SPSS15 statistical package. Results: 15.7% have knowledge about the climacteric, 47% of women surveyed have a positive attitude towards menopause and 17.3% expressed a negative attitude referring fear of aging. The main symptom is weight gain presenting with 49.5%, followed by decreased libido with 40.5% (150) of respondents.
