Despite of the intense activity observed in the Pacific coast of Latin America, few countries have developed regulations that consider this danger in detail. In Ecuador, the regulations present guidelines on the type of seismic analysis, but not on the type of modeling. In this area, it has been proven that concentrated plasticity models are the most accurate in steel structures, however this are the most complex methods to implement. This document proposes two distributed plasticity model of a steel moment frames structure using fibers controlled by forces. The first model use fibers for the beam-column elements and rotational springs for the joints, while the second model consider all the elements with fibers. The process of modelling considers: calibration of different materials, influence of fiber parameters and second order geometrical effects. In addition, the models are verified through static and dynamic analysis, prior to performance analysis. It is shown that the proposed models are similar in drift story results, however they present important differences related to the computational times. In addition, fiber models can be used in perform analysis of steel structures, but fiber models cannot predict collapse. Finally, it is recommended to carry out research on the second model with fibers in all elements and on the optimization of the methodology of fiber to reduce computational time
