OBJETIVE: To establish the prevalence of cesareans in the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital, and correlate the diagnosis clinical- surgical during the year 2010. MATERIALS AND METHODS: we realized a descriptive retrospective study of the permanence and correlation clinical-surgical of the cesareans of the period 2010 in the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital, further explored the whole universe. They were selected as variables: age, marital status, education, residence, prenatal controls, causes of the cesarean, labor work, doctor who realized the operation, type of incision, and surgical diagnosis. RESULTS: In the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital during the year 2010, the cesarean intervention represents 32,83% of the total of births during this year, women between 24 and 33 years with secondary and higher education, they are those who with major frequency choose this type of operation, although they had an appropriate prenatal control. Of the total of cesareans the 65, 9% corresponds to the realized ones for emergency; the principal reason for this was a previous cesarean (36, 54%), followed the fetal dystocia. Agreement of fetal welfare, and the high blood pressure related to the pregnancy. Only in 51, 84% they exist correlation clinical- surgical, while in 48, 16% does not present this relation so there is a variation of 10% between the diagnosis pre and post cesarean. CONCLUSION: the percentage of cesareans had been increasing considerably in the areas of private and public health, exceeding this way the recommended for the OMS, for this reason it is necessary to establish parameters that allow a better clinical valuation of the maternal to avoid an unnecessary cesarean, and thus we can reduce the risk in the health of the binomial mother - children, as well as also to reduce institutional expenses. KEY WORDS: CESAREAN, CLINICAL AND SURGICAL DIAGNOSIS.
