Evaluación de la capacidad funcional de los niños que asisten al Instituto de Parálisis Cerebral del Azuay. Cuenca 2022
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-07-20) Guamán Chunchi, Jessica Daniela; Peralta Avila, Michelle Estefania; Villalta Chungata, Blanca Cecilia
Background: Functional abilities allow the individual to perform activities in their daily life, without assistance from another person. However, they can be affected by disorders such as cerebral palsy, which affects their relationships, autonomy, and participation in society. Therefore, it is considered important to evaluate children attending IPCA using the PEDICAT instrument that assesses functional domains. Objective: To evaluate the functional capacity of children attending the Cerebral Palsy Institute of Azuay (IPCA) using the PEDICAT test. Methods: It is a descriptive, quantitative and cross-sectional study; for the statistical analysis of qualitative variables it uses frequency tables and percentages, for quantitative variables, it uses measures of central tendency: mean, median, and mode; the results are presented using statistical tables and graphs in Microsoft Excel 2019 and IBM SPSS Statistics 25 programs. Results obtained: The sample consisted of 47 IPCA children, presenting dependence on daily activities 94 %, mobility 100 %, social cognitive 96 %, and responsibility 85 %. The highest dependency values were found in the 5 to 6-year-old age group and the male sex, with 59.6 % in daily activities, 61.7% in mobility, 61.7 % in social cognitive, and 51.1 % in responsibility. Conclusion: Children aged 0 to 12 years who attend IPCA present dependence in all domains with higher values in the male sex and the 5 to 6 years range.
