In a society marked by its instability and complexity, it is essential to develop leadership with the ability to manage and control emotions, as a vital condition, both personally and collectively. In this context, the general objective of this research is to analyze the relationship and explanatory capacity of the components of emotional intelligence in the transformational leadership style of participants of the Leadership for Transformation program of the 2021 edition. To achieve this objective, a quantitative-qualitative (mixed) methodology is used. The survey (n=310) and interviews (n=7) were used as data collection techniques, to students of the mentioned program, executed by the research group "ACORDES" of the University of Cuenca. The results show that women have a higher level of "self-regulation", "motivation", "empathy" and "social skills" than men. Meanwhile, there are NO significant differences in the mean scores of the dimensions of emotional intelligence between men and women, neither by urban or rural area of residence, nor by the interaction of the variables sex*area of residence. Finally, with respect to the relationship and explanatory capacity of self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills in the transformational leadership style, it is shown that "motivation" and "social skills" are significant variables to explain the transformational leadership of the sample under study. In conclusion, the dimensions of emotional intelligence are power tools to generate a Transformational Leadership style.
