Caracterización de las diferentes inserciones y variantes anatómicas del frenillo labial superior en niños de 8 a 12 años de las unidades educativas particulares Rosa de Jesús Cordero y Borja. Cuenca - Azuay. 2017
(2017) Narváez Reinoso, María del Carmen; Parra Abad, Erika Nataly; Alvarado Cordero, Jacinto José
Frenulums are normal structures present in the oral cavity, defined as folds of fibrous tissue attach to the mandible and maxilla through muscular insertions. The upper labial frenum is a dynamic structure that will give stability to the upper lip by adhering it to the alveolar mucosa and the underlying periosteum; it has different types of attachments and variations in its morphology. Aim: The aim of this study was to characterize the maxillary labial frenum attachment and its variations in children between 8 and 12 years old in the elementary schools "Rosa de Jesús Cordero" and "Borja" of Cuenca - Ecuador. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out with a sample of 334 children between 8 and 12 years old considering their sex, age, maxillary labial frenum attachment and its morphological variations. Results: In this study, 54.20% of the samples were male and 45.80% were female. The most frequent maxillary labial frenum attachment was gingival (52.10%) followed by papillary (35.33%), mucosal (10.48%) and papillary penetrating (2.10%). The most prevalent variations were: normal frenulum (44.61%) followed by the normal frenulum with appendix (22.16%) and the normal frenulum with nodule (18.86%). Conclusions: The most prevalent attachment of the upper labial frenulum is the gingival in a normal frenum. No significant difference between males and females was found
