(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-04-16) Paredes Albarracin, Erika Soledad; Puglla Gualán, Gladys Janeth; Fárez Orrego, Ximena Angélica
Cancer is the leading cause of death in the world's population. Although advances in treatment have helped to increase the survival rate, numerous studies have shown that this terminal disease has a significant impact on the quality of life of cancer patients after their diagnosis. The objective of this research was to analyze the quality of life of cancer patients at the Fundación al Servicio del Enfermo de Cáncer (FASEC) - Hospital Santa Inés in Cuenca during the period 2024-2025. A qualitative study with a phenomenological design was used, which involved the collection of information about the quality of life in the oncology population of FASEC, an institution that is currently considered a palliative care center. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews and recorded as a recording, maintaining confidentiality and respect for the participants. The interpretation and analysis process were carried out using ATLAS.ti 24 software, identifying relevant categories and codes. According to the results obtained, it was concluded that the quality of life of cancer patients is directly related to physical, psychological, social and spiritual changes, which differ between the quality of life prior to diagnosis and the current quality of life; coping strategies such as family support and spiritual support are a fundamental pillar of the quality of life of cancer patients.
