Item Manifestaciones cutáneas y factores de riesgo en los adultos mayores diabéticos miembros del programa de servicios sociales para el adulto mayor del IESS Cuenca 2013(2014) Chuchuca Cely, Diego Stalin; Parco Chicaiza, Mayra Alejandra; Zeas Domínguez, Iván Marcelo; Encalada Torres, Lorena EsperanzaIntroduction: In Ecuador 13.2% of older adults are diabetics. Diabetes causes skin changes that allow us to recognize your progress, effectiveness of treatment and the skin is often the first to show changes. Objectives: To determine the relationship between Type II Diabetes cutaneous manifestations and the presence in the Social Services Program for Older IESS -Cuenca 2013. Material and methods: a case design (n = 45) and controls (n = 90) included 145 older adults. Cases were patients with diabetes mellitus type II and witnesses, matched for sex and age, patients without diabetes. Time of diagnosis, treatment, blood glucose and BMI: For all skin lesions and risk factors was investigated. Results: The prevalence of skin lesions in diabetics was 91.9 %. Pruritus [OR 11.78 ( 3.1 to 44.06 )] , p ≤ 0.001, as an inherent manifestation skin lesions and necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum [OR 11.12 ( 1.2 to 98.3 )] p ≤ 0.008, were the most significant findings in diabetics in whom increases by more than 11 times the probability of these events occur with respect to those without diabetes. Risk factors: time exceeding 10 years and carry a diabetes untreated disease increase by 4.6 and 3.6 times, respectively, the probability of having skin lesions. The difference in the case group with respect to the witnesses was highly significant (p ≤ 0.006). Conclusions. The results of our study agree with those reported in international literature.
