    Perfil epidemiológico de salud oral en personas de la tercera edad que habitan en el Asilo Cristo Rey de la ciudad de Cuenca

    The elderly people are a risk population to different systemic and oral diseases, which affect their quality of life. The presence of dental decay, periodontal disease, edentulism and dentures in poor condition can be seen frequently in elderly patients for many reasons such as motor or cognitive dysfunction of the person or comorbidities of diseases that exacerbate the prognosis of different oral pathologies. Objective: To determine the epidemiological profile of oral health of the people living in the asylum Cristo Rey of Cuenca. Methods: A descriptive study in senior age, in which a dental clinical diagnosis and a review of the medical history of each patient was performed. The sample consisted of 71 people, 65 and older, women and men. Results: Of the patients examined, 42 (59,2%) were female and 29 (40,8%) were male. Oral diseases most prevalent were dental decay, periodontal disease and denture stomatitis. Less common disorders were oral candidiasis and xerostomia
