Item Prevalencia de alteraciones espirométricas relacionada con el uso de leña como combustible orgánico, en personas entre 60 y 69 años de la parroquia Honorato Vásquez, 2014(2015) Palacios Moncayo, Alcira Cecilia; Pañora Castillo, Nube Estefania; Mosquera Vallejo, Lorena Elizabeth; Ordoñez Vintimilla, José RicardoGeneral Objective: To determine the Spirometric changes related to the use of wood as an organic fuel, in people between 60 and 69 years old of Honorato Vasquez parish during the year 2014. Metodology: Cross-sectional study of prevalence in a population of 225 people between 60 and 69 years old of parish Honorato Vasquez of Canton Cañar; following the approval of informed consent, demographics data such as: age sex and residence were collected, exposure to wood smoke and a spirometric study was conducted, data was entered into SPSS and it is presented in simple tables and contingency. Results: The prevalence of the use of firewood was 55.6%; being the 72% of population in between 60-64 years old, 76.8% female and rural residence in 84% of the cases; the level of exposure to combustion of wood products was less than 10 years in 56% of the cases, the spirometric patterns were: Normal 13.8%; mixed with predominantly restrictive 38.2%; obstructive 6.2% and restrictive 41.8% and in the population with normal exposure to wood smoke 16.8%; mixed with restrictive dominance 28%; obstructive 4.8% and restrictive 50.4%; all signs and symptoms were more common in people with restrictive pattern. Conclusion: The prevalence of spirometric abnormalities are associated with the use of wood as organic fuel, being the restrictive the most prevalent.
