This study addresses the employment situation of housekeepers in three- and four-star hotels in the historic center of the city of Cuenca. The hotel sector is characterized by intense labor turnover and high demand for labor due to the seasonality of its positions. However, one of the most significant activities within hotels are those of the housekeeping department that is made up of a group of housekeepers, the same ones who carry out activities related to the preparation and cleaning of all areas of a hotel, where job satisfaction and occupational health are important factors, which has generated the questioning of the workforce that these workers maintain. Interviews were conducted to identify the working conditions of housekeepers and recognition of their work. The responses revealed that many of them are engaged in this work due to lack of vocational training, as they had to drop out of school to support and care for their families. Although the housekeeping department does not receive enough job recognition, the interviewees were satisfied in their work, considering positive changes on the part of their managers, since their work is equal or more relevant than the other departments.
