The present research aims to identify the perception of gender and self-esteem in adolescents enrolled in the canton of Gualaceo, in the year 2016. It is a descriptive study, the number of participants was 1800 adolescents between the ages of 12 and 19. For data collection, a form validated by the CERCA (Community Embedded Reproductive Health Care for Adolescents) project was used (Annex 1), from which the fragment corresponding to the study topic was taken. To tabulate data analysis, the SPSS version 21 program was used, data were analyzed by frequency and percentage. As a result, we observed that the highest percentage (63.5%) of adolescents were found in the age range between 11 and 14 years, with women being the majority with a percentage of 52.61%. With regard to self-esteem, it was found that 76% of the population enjoys good self-esteem. As for gender in a total score of 12 points, the result of the average population was 7.65 representing the gender attitudes that they have. By way of conclusion, the majority of adolescents were female, between 11 and 14 years of age, they present a great deal of family disruption, especially due to the absence of the father. There is a great lack of basic services. Good self-esteem and an adequate gender perception are perceived according to the authors' interpretation, but this assessment is at the reader's discretion
