    Frecuencia de la ideación suicida en pacientes internados del Hospital Psiquiátrico Humberto Ugalde Camacho de Cuenca, en el período enero 2024 - mayo 2024

    Background: Currently, suicide is one of the main causes of death in Ecuador, so its prevention is imperative; however, the population with psychiatric disorders has a somewhat higher risk. Therefore, the present work investigates the frequency of suicidal ideation in patients admitted to the Humberto Ugalde Camacho Psychiatric Hospital in Cuenca, Ecuador, during January to May 2024. Objetive: To establish the frequency of suicidal ideation in patients admitted to the Humberto Ugalde Camacho Psychiatric Hospital in Cuenca, in the period January 2024 - May 2024. Method: The study is descriptive and 69 surveys were carried out, which contained the Beck suicidal ideation scale. Excluding minor hospitalized patients and those who refused to sign the informed consent. Results: The main results show that 59.4% of hospitalized patients present suicidal ideation. The severity of ideation is classified as high in 24.6% and very high in 23.2%. Suicidal ideation is more common among 18-25 years of age (23.2%), in females (31.9%) and in patients with addictive and substance-related disorders (37.7%). 43.5% had a previous suicide attempt. Conclusion: The research concludes that the frequency of suicidal ideation in this population is high and the severity is also high, representing a significant risk of suicidal behavior.
