Item Factores que influyen en el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes de primero, segundo y tercer año de la escuela de enfermería de la Universidad de Cuenca, año 2014(2014) Mazón Ortíz, Diana Carolina; Montero Suscal, María José; Ortiz Atiencia, Gissela Vanesa; Angulo Rosero, Aydee Narcisa; Rodríguez Sánchez, Dolores AmparitoBackground: Academic performance is defined as the achievement of goals, accomplishments and objectives established in the curriculum that the student is enrolled. Objective: To determine the factors affecting the academic performance of first, second and third year of the School of Nursing at the University of Cuenca, 2014. Materials and methods: A descriptive quantitative research type was performed. We worked with a finite universe of 810 and the sampling frame of 319 students from the School of Nursing. Instrument: a survey by the authors prior to this a pilot project was conducted was applied. Results: The results indicate the lack of motivation with career choice is 28.2%; lack of study habits (56.7%), not having a suitable place of study (38.9%), misuse of study materials (32.6%). a significant number of male students chose their career by economic interests. It should be noted that low achievers have habits and proper study, just as it was observed that within the family factor the lack of support from its members and negative influence is evident in a regular performance in students (35.4%). Conclusions: There are four types of factors that influence the academic performance of students in nursing school among which are: family, personal and social. However it is worth noting that the personal and family are the most significant factor being these determinants that affect their performance.
