A preliminary step consists of the chronological analysis of the historical evolution of cities, reviewing new urban concepts raised at the beginning of the twentieth century, allowing a clear view of the principles of re-ordering and densification of the "new towns" principles that are the basis for comparison and future development of criteria. Once these factors research focuses his study in Sao Paulo, Bogota, Medellin, Montevideo, Santiago, Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca and Loja, to go much deeper into the description of examples paradigmatic collective housing both as settlement city which have been or are relevant in the context of each city. Through the application of a sheet collected relevant data in each set and metropolis, which allow charting summaries, for applying a "rubric" in which compares each settlement according to parameters set. This comparison allows obtaining results through which identify conditions setting a guide so that, applying the principles identified, can become the basis for an ideal model of densification of the city.
