Cuenca, 2012-2015(Universidad de Cuenca, 2018-11-11) Ríos Garzón, Valeria Estefanía; Ortega Berrezueta, Jaime Fernando; Morales Sanmartín, Jaime RodrigoIntroduction: Sepsis currently represents an emerging problem in health, is one of the main reasons for admission to the intensive care unit (ICU). Objective: To identify the prevalence and factors associated with mortality due to sepsis in intensive care patients at the "José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital" from July 1, 2012 to December 31, 2015. Method and techniques: A transversal analytical study was carried out in 220 clinical histories; using measures of central tendency, mean, measures of dispersion; as well as frequencies, percentages, bivariate analysis, p-value, 95% CI and PR, and multivariate binary logistic regression analysis. Results: The prevalence of mortality was 47.3%; the age group with the highest prevalence was 70-79 years (21.4%), 54% of the patients corresponded to the female sex. The infectious digestive focus was the most frequent (44.54%), followed by the respiratory one (31.36%). Greater mortality was associated to: Age> 75 years (56.9%), presence of complications during hospitalization in the intensive care unit (67.2%), scores on the APACHE II scale ≥22 (61, 3%) and SOFA ≥8 (55.6%) within the first 24 hours of admission to the intensive care ward and the use of mechanical ventilation (65.5%). Conclusions: The prevalence of mortality in patients with sepsis was high, being associated with age> 75 years, complications in ICU, APACHE II ≥22, SOFA ≥8 and use of mechanical ventilationPublication Tratamiento de pacientes con afectación grave por COVID-19, con plasma de pacientes convalecientes de COVID-19(Universidad del Azuay, 2020) Espinoza Calle, Glenda Iralda; Paredes Sanchez, Johanna Elizabeth; Aguirre Bermeo, Hernan Marcelo; Martinez Carvallo, Luis Alberto; Peña Patiño, Sandra Gioconda; Lopez Aguirre, Wilson Javier; Holguin Carvajal, Juan Pablo; Cobos Villavicencio, Paul Ramiro; Ortega Berrezueta, Jaime Fernando; Hernandez Quito, Elvia Lucrecia; Dita Salabert, Liermis Michael; Duque Proaño, Galo Ruben
