Caracterización de la isla de calor urbana por efectos de la morfología en la ciudad andina de Cuenca, Ecuador
(2017-07-31) Bustamante Campoverde, Andrés Santiago; Orellana Valdez, Diana Alejandra
This investigation is experimental and compares 6 urban canyons of the historic center of Cuenca to evaluate the incidence of urban morphology in the urban heat island (UHI). In the inner of canyons are made insitu measurements to explore data of ambient temperature and wind speed in different days of a type week with high temperature and radiation. These measurements are compared with data from the Llacao rural station to verify the existence of ICU in day and night. Then, morphological aspects of urban canyons such as the ratio (H/W), sky view factor SVF, relative height factor (FHR) and the radiation of horizontal and vertical surfaces are evaluated. In addition, a principal components analysis was performed between the morphology parameters, the normalized differential vegetation index (NDVI) and the vehicular flow in the ICU day period. The study identifies that the urban canyon of Huayna Cápac with a ratio of 0.28, a SVF of 0.66 and north-south orientation obtains a thermal difference of 2 ºC with regard to the urban canyon of Presidente Córdoba with ratio of 1.47 a SVF of 0.34 and east-west orientation.

Consumo sustentable de agua en viviendas de la ciudad de Cuenca
(2018-07-02) Molina Castro, Eduardo Xavier; Orellana Valdez, Diana Alejandra
This study proposes and supports the application of 4 criteria for the sustainable management of drinking water within the home in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, defining and assessing three levels for each criterion: standard, best practices and superior practices. The control of the maximum consumption, the control of water consumption and leaks, the use of saving devices and rainwater reuse systems are the 4 criteria, the result of a larger research project titled: Method of Certification of Sustainable Construction household. The results presented here are obtained through the application of surveys to probe the existence of drinking water saving practices and the predisposition of the population to incorporate these strategies, measurements of water consumption by uses in 10 homes for a week, processing of official information on water consumption in the canton of Cuenca facilitated by ETAPA, and the analysis of secondary sources of several standards: ISO, INEC and the Ecuadorian Technical Construction Standard, among others. Finally, a case study is presented to validate the proposal through the simulation of a home, with the objective of demonstrating the savings obtained.

Un nuevo modelo territorial de las zonas de protección natural periurbanas en la microcuenca del río Tarqui
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2012-05) Orellana Valdez, Diana Alejandra
The Ordinance that punishes the Territorial ordering Plan of canton Cuenca, existing since 2003, determines the non-developable land in the area of influence close to the city because some factors, one of them is the natural value possessing five well-defined areas called Areas of Natural Protection (ZPN), in these areas is restricted all activity involving the artificialization of land, banning also their fractionation. However, so far are vulnerable by urban growth because there is no any plan that defines their management. Under that circumstance, we applied the methodology proposed by Dr. Domingo Gómez Orea to the elaboration of the Territorial ordering Plan used in three of the five ZPN peri-urban areas: Loma de Huizhil, Cerro Monjas, Agua Santa and the area of close influence - the micro-watershed of the Tarqui river- common to the three territories, the same that is characterized by harmonize activities and human aspirations with the reception capacity of each territory.
