Estudio y georeferenciación de las toponimias de la parroquia rural de Paccha, del cantón Cuenca, provincia del Azuay
(2015) Ochoa Cobos, Ismael Alejandro; Aguilar García, María Leonor
This research, by the nameEstudio y georeferenciación de la toponimias de la parroquia rural Paccha del cantón Cuenca, provinciadel Azuay (Study and Georeferencing of toponymies of Paccha Rural Parish of Cuenca Canton, Province of Azuay), aims to preserve the memory, culture and identity of this parish of the Cuenca canton. Toponymies are a reflection of the history and social development of all societies. Rooted in them we can find many cultural, linguistic, anthropological, and geographical elements, among others. Thus, in this specific case, toponymies witness the succession of various cultures: Cañari, Inca, and Spanish, as well as various eras: Pre-Columbian, Colonial, and Republican. This study is a compilation of written sources such as books, chronicles, dictionaries, and more. Oral sources were also used as the collective memory of the people of Paccha. Furthermore, the main objective of this research was to collect information for georeferencing all the toponymies of Paccha. The georeferencing process along with the process of gathering written and oral information resulted in the possibility of providing each toponymy a location with geographic coordinates, linguistic origin, etymology, and a brief description of its history. This has been shown both in writing form and corresponding maps. Although this research process focuses in a greater understanding of the history, culture and identity of the Paccha parish, it also aims to be a tool that contributes to the rescue of the intangible heritage of this territorial unit.

Isaac Asimov and the golden age of science fiction: a study in terms of his contribution to the genre
(2017) Ochoa Cobos, Ismael Alejandro; Rodas Pacheco, Fabián Darío
The present research is about the life and literary works of an extraordinary person, Isaac Asimov. His life is that of a genius who learned to read and write by himself and who wrote his first story at the age of eleven. His literary production covers different fields of knowledge: science, religion, humanism, ecology and, especially, the field of science fiction (SF), a literary genre that he contributed to give it the definitive form it has today. Concomitantly, then, this investigative work covers the history of science fiction as a literary genre from its earliest manifestations thousands of years ago, to the absorbing audiovisual productions that captivate the attention of today’s both adults and children. For this reason, the contents of this thesis also include a description with abundant examples of the characteristics that this literary genre has acquired at present. Among Asimov's numerous works related to science fiction, two series of books are the most important, his Foundation and Robot series. The elements of science fiction that stand out in these two series have served as inspiration for modern writers of fictional scientific material. Consequently, the fundamental part of this research deals with a detailed study of these two series in terms of their contribution to shape science fiction as a literary genre.
