Item Arquitectura historicista en Cuenca: la Iglesia de San alfonso(2008) Moscoso Cordero, María Soledad; Kennedy Troya, AlexandraItem La evolución del paisaje urbano histórico de Cuenca desde el siglo XIX hasta la actualidad aplicación a un barrio tradicional de Cuenca “El Vado”(2016) Neira Naidiuk, Ekaterina; Moscoso Cordero, María SoledadThroughout history there have been different ways of seeing and understanding the historical city, but the heritage is not only what is perceived from the architectural point of view, but also under what circumstances it has created and has evolved as in the course of the years. That is why UNESCO study Historical Urban Landscapes (PUH), covering all aspects related to the evolution of the heritage cities, with all the aspects involved its development has been necessary. Each city is established in a specific place for the features it possesses, and are all considered to establish a place of settlement: the topography, hydrology, geomorphology, climate, space and security in the area for development. There are also human aspects that have to do with the cultural, social and economic development, enabling the evolution of cities according to their needs in every era of history. That is why it was decided to make a study of the PUH of a traditional neighborhood of the city of Cuenca according to the most outstanding features and their level of interest, it took into consideration that the most applicable for this study is "El Vado" which it is a neighborhood with a great historical and cultural richness that has to be analyzed and preserved by their historical value tradition, cultural and religious activities; and especially for its architecture.Item La gentrificación y sus consecuencias en la conservación del patrimonio edificado. El caso de la calle Larga de la ciudad de Cuenca(2016-12-05) Galán Espinoza, Nelson Eduardo; Moscoso Cordero, María SoledadFor the compression of the relationship between gentrification and heritage conservation, the method to be used in the development of the thesis will be of the deductive type: scientific method that considers the conclusion implicit in the premises. The methodology is based on three general aspects: 1. Conceptual Framework (Heritage conservation, gentrification and their relationship). 2. Diagnosis (Positive and negative aspects in the world and in the country). Experiences on gentrification will be analyzed in general in Europe and Latin America to find favorable and unfavorable aspects. Subsequently, the study should focus on the case of Quito with Calle la Ronda and Cuenca with CalleLarga. 3. Guidelines for managing management (final suggestions). Sites will be compared in a comparative way to find positive and negative aspects. Finally, identify the problems and suggest possible solutions, applicable in CalleLarga. At the end of the present study, after the analysis of what happens in the international arena, as well as in the city of Quito, possible solutions will be suggested for the Cuenca case. The work of thesis proposes to relate the processes of gentrification with the conservation of the built heritage. Some cases of gentrification in the world will be analyzed, where the effects will be evaluated, to study the case of the cities of Ecuador.Item Hitos arquitectónicos como testigos de alianzas político-religiosas en el Ecuador: La Basílica del Voto Nacional(Universidad de Cuenca, 2021-11-22) Guamán Pulgarín, Edwin Fabián; Moscoso Cordero, María Soledad; Kennedy Troya, María AlexandraEcuador has one of the largest neo- Gothic buildings in the American continent: the Basilica of the National Vow, which was conceived during the mandate of former conservative president Gabriel García Moreno in order to create a monument to commemorate the country’s consecration to the Sacred Heart. of Jesus; However, what is ignored is that the temple has attributes that show that close relationship between the State and the Church of Ecuador. Of those attributes, its strategic location on the hill of San Juan stands out, thus generating an imposing reading of the building over Quito, which in turn leads to the spatial relationship that the church seems to have with the statue of the Virgen del Panecillo, thus evidencing a kind of symbolic takeover of the Ecuadorian capital. Added to this is the adoption of the neo-Gothic style for the building, which has undergone alterations in its original design for various reasons, including brief features, the lack of interest by some governments in contributing to the construction, for which the temple has remained unfinished until today. Due to the aforementioned, the contribution of this document consists of highlighting these and other aspects that have not been mentioned or analyzed by architecture theorists, which draws attention due to the meaning that the temple has not only for Ecuadorians but even for the Catholic community worldwide.Item La arquitectura religiosa en el Quito moderno, el caso del padre Pedro Brüning(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-09-27) Corral Urigüen, Micaela Elena; Polo Martínez, Sofía Carolina; Moscoso Cordero, María Soledad; Keneddy Troya, María AlexandraDuring the 20th century, the Catholic Church was going through a different cultural and political context that it was not accustomed to, which caused them to search for ways to adapt to the new conditions of society, and thus renew itself. It is in this context that new religious congregations arrived in Ecuador that were part of the Renovated Church with the aim of taking over the different labors of society. Of the religious newcomers that arrived to the country, there stood out the german architects John Baptist Stiehle (1829-1899), redemptorist and father Peter Brüning (1869-1938), lazarist. They were the ones to take charge of materializing the reformed church in ecuadorian architecture during the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. The purpose of this investigation is to make evident the contributions of father Peter Brüning in the religious architecture of the country, but, above all in Quito during the beginning of the 20th century. For this, an architectural-historical investigation was incurred where diverse bibliography was revised with the aim of achieving a broadening, systemazation and analysis of data about his works and collaborators; with a unique emphasis on the parochial church of San Roque. Developing a formal, functional and constructive system analysis: showing the changes of the parochial ensemble and of the church throughout the years, together with its pictorial richness and design. In this way, it is made evident of the large influence that father Brüning had on the constructions of religious nature in the city of Quito, besides of his contributions to ecuadorian plastic artsItem Metodología para la evaluación de impactos en el patrimonio cultural, a partir de propuestas de intervención en el espacio público. Caso aplicativo: barrio San Roque Plaza Sucre(2018-11-26) Navas Muñoz, María de Lourdes; Moscoso Cordero, María SoledadAll territories, either of urban or rural kind, are constantly immerse in a process of change, mainly in fact of economical, social, political and cultural pressures. In consequence, a deep comprehension of the historical landscape value is strongly needed before intervening in a project. Any alteration in landscape integrity will constitute either a threatening or maybe an input for its heritage condition: considering the high vulnerability, as this category of space comprises non-renewable sources. The proposal of a preventive and systemic method is key to identify this sort of heritage impacts. So, this present research aims to formulate both to implement a preventive methodology system in public space intervening projects, within a patrimonial component. Detecting and evaluating impacts derives directly from site and the various social actors related to its management. Indeed, an evaluation of impacts is focused on analysis and on decision-making before starting an intervening project, in order to support its heritage conservation. Finally, it was necessary to formulate additional indicators to increase the scale of analysis of site: the need for tools that measure quantitatively for a comparative purpose, the creation of parameters to an ex-post evaluation and the importance of time monitoring; all of them to provide suitable information on site management and on project decision-making.Item Los no-lugares dentro del Patrimonio: caso de estudio Cuenca - Ecuador(2019-07-26) Gutiérrez Guillén, Carolina Mercedes; Salamea Toro, Pamela Estefanía; Moscoso Cordero, María SoledadAt present, there are spaces that are considered places and non-places; These have been given by the way of making architecture, by its lace with the context and by the perception of the society. Defines place as the space that has symbolic values and historical, being this unique and singular that is related to the human being. And it is considered the non-place as places without soul, where does not have any relation with the human being; these non-places are transitional, of a temporary character, subject to change and non-residence. The purpose of conservation and restoration of heritage is to maintain the values, identity and history of the places, and in this way, creating humanly habitable places. However, the interventions carried out in some patrimonial buildings and public spaces do not always confer due importance to the values that make the human being appropriates of these; thus transforming into non-places. To reflect on this topic, a case of study is established in the public space of the city of Cuenca, being this: Small Square Pedro Touloup. This one studied part of the problems of identifying what sense and meaning the public spaces possess in our society, from different factors that turn them into non-places. It should be emphasized that in this study one of the most important factors is society, since this also gives the essential characteristics of place and non-place depending on its position as a spectator, of its experience and relationship with the site.Item La participación ciudadana en el manejo del patrimonio edificado(2017-07-06) Merchán Tello, Lorena Paola; Moscoso Cordero, María SoledadThis research analyzes conceptual and legal frameworks and national and international experiences, as well as at what level exists citizen participation within heritage area, to have a better orientation in the local practice for the implementation of tools or techniques of citizen participation inside of heritage plans, programs and projects. Citizen participation is an important and necessary element for the fulfillment of projects for management and conservation of cultural heritage needs, it’s when the participation opens important perspectives in the field of Good Living, since it allows us to interact and be part of the solutions of future projects development, in order to be executed within our built heritage.Item Patrimonio modesto desarrollo de lineamientos para la adaptación de nuevos usos en edificaciones patrimoniales en el Centro Histórico de Cuenca(2017) Rojas Delgado, María Fernanda; Pesántez Guzmán, Juan Martín; Moscoso Cordero, María SoledadHistorical downtown areas are the result of years of cultural and social constructions. Due to the growth of the needs of the population, advances in technology, and urban development in cities, these areas are constantly experiencing physical and cultural transformation. These urban processes are a sing of the increase in the economic value, of some of the social areas that involve a change of use in the heritage; at the same time, they have resulted in the revitalization of the historic quarter. The current objective is to find out if heritage development provides an incentive to the economic, touristic, and political growth while improving living conditions of dowtown spaces and giving dynamism back to historical sites. In this sense, historical downtown Cuenca faces a similar scenario around both the lack of removal of destroyed monumental heritage and the modern heritage valued by a small amount of people. Such actions may increase the risk of loss of the different values of the heritage sites, even compromising the physical stability of the property. This research seeks to analyze the physical and symbolic changes to which the actual heritage is subjected. It hopes to find a balance between the new uses generated by increased tourist promotion and the conservation of heritage values. In this way, the investigation proposes an analysis of the spatial changes required to adapt these areas for new use while generating new guidelines for quality architectural interventions, which leads to the conservation of valuable heritage sites.Item Perspectivas de cubiertas fotovoltaicas y arquitectura en contextos urbanos patrimoniales(2018) Zalamea León, Esteban Felipe; Barragán Escandón, Edgar Antonio; Moscoso Cordero, María Soledad; Méndez Santos, Pablo Alejandro; Mena Campos, Juan DavidObjective To estimate electric self-sufficiency through added or integrated photovoltaics (PV) on roofs jointly with heritage and architectural implications analysis. Discussing the impact associated with achieving energy democratization, observing consequences of typical PV technology with crystalline solar cells products, more efficient, mature and economical, compared to new "architectural" PV products developed for mimicry, less efficient, costly, and involving to remove the authentic original coating tiles. Methodology Through three-dimensional BIM roof diagrams, the overall solar potential is estimated, and this with respect to own demands. Self-generation margins are projected with locally validated PV production models. Then, through photomontages the relative impact of cristalline PV solar products as well PV tiles, observing the relative impact from different urban perspectives. Conclusions PV crystalline solar panels superimposed on roofs could reach electrical surpluses, between four and twenty times. PV roof tiles also would cover a very high demand with substantial surpluses, between two and nine times. From an architectural perspective, it has been shown from urban perspectives, crystalline solar panels are not being noticeable when buildings have more than two floors, but in one floor buildings or from distant and aerial perspectives the impact is significant. From street point of view and urban scale, PV roof tiles, despite having been created for mimicry, also have an effect on one floor buildings, specially in near sight view. Originality The originality of this work lies besides estimating the urban solar potential widely analysed in the literature, to counterpose conservation and authenticity aspects, against renewable energy integration consequences. These aspects have not been analysed jointly in the literature so far we know.Item Plan de conservación preventiva para el tramo del Qhapac Ñan-Camino del Inca, comprendido entre Migüir y Paredones de Molleturo(2019-06-06) Ordóñez Suárez, Ruth Irene; Moscoso Cordero, María SoledadThis research focuses on the study of a section of the Qhapac Ñan between the sector of Migüir (near the Cajas National Park) and the Inca administrative center of Paredones de Molleturo, included within another larger segment that includes the Andean Road System (Camino del Inca) that crosses six South American countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. This network of roads was a strategic element for the unification, growth and organization of the Inca empire; nowadays Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity. The document begins by the theoretical framework on the conservation of Cultural, Natural and Archaeological heritage, continuing with the study of preventive conservation. Subsequently, the analysis of two international case studies related to the cultural itinerary category and its experience in the application of preventive conservation is carried out, to conclude with reflection on the results obtained with the objective that serve as support for the proposed plan. It continues with the diagnosis of the case study, it begins with an approach to the Qhapac Ñan; to then perform the examination of the object of study that focuses on four aspects: management status, physical and conservation status, patrimonial valuation and partner status - cultural. The problems encountered are summarized in two methodologies: problem tree and matrix F.O.D.A. Finally, the plan proposal is presented as a response to the conservation needs determined in the diagnosis.Item Presencia de arquitectura posmoderna en la ciudad de Cuenca(Universidad de Cuenca, 2020-01-08) Ochoa Ruilova, María Inés; Moscoso Cordero, María SoledadThe current research studied the postmodern architecture in Cuenca city. To understand it, it´s important to reviewed the modern and postmodern architecture in Europe and United States where it was stablished. The studies considered three aspects: the man, the society and the architecture and it has a direct influence in the way it came to Latin-American and Ecuador since 1970. The present research makes emphasis the formal shapes in buildings. Considering social, economics and cultural proprieties we selected three edifications Oficinas del IESS (Carvallo, Vega, 1973), Pumapungo (Piedra, 1985), y Edificio Paseo del Puente (Roura, 1998), where we stablished that the architecture tht was built in Cuenca during this period, had postmodern attributes with a personal identity of the placeItem Transformaciones por el cambio de uso en edificaciones patrimoniales. Caso de estudio: seminario San Luis(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-07-27) Arroyo Aguilera, Dora Elizabeth; Arteaga Córdova, Ana Paula; Moscoso Cordero, María SoledadThe lack of an integral approach in the formulation of guidelines for the conservation of historic buildings potentially adaptable to new uses, weakens the actions of conservation of cultural heritage, as well as the possibility of its use in processes of sustainable deve - lopment of historic centers. Therefore, this investigation analyzes the versatility of buil - dings that are transformed by adapting them to new uses and the impact that these transfor - mations generate on the herita - ge values of those buildings with historical, aesthetic, architectural, and symbolic singularities. The building of the old San Luis Seminary, located in Cuenca's historic center, is taken as a case study. This building has under - gone a series of transformations since its conception, adapting to the different uses that have been required in each period of history. The proposed methodology is based on the analysis of different aspects of the heritage building and its context, in order to identify the impact, positive or negative, that the various transformations have caused at a physical and symbolic level. Thus, considering that heritage is alive and constantly changing, guidelines are proposed, seeking a balance between the need to adapt the building to a new use and the conservation of herita - ge values; trying to generate the least possible impact on said va - lues. The case of the San Luis Seminary constitutes an appetizer for mul - tiple investigations involving he - ritage conservation, fulfilling the objective of generating a guide to improve actions in future inter - ventionsItem Transformaciones urbanas en el centro histórico por los nuevos usos: sus repercusiones en los valores y atributos patrimoniales. Caso de estudio Calle Larga, Cuenca(2016-10-19) Mejía Coronel, Diana Paulina; Moscoso Cordero, María SoledadThe historic center is a coveted spot for the development of economic activities. Buildings have changed their use in order to respond to this activity. The house as a private living place became secondary and now is combined with other uses. Touristic services are a type of businesses that are increasing in CalleLarga Street. The transformation done in Plaza de la Merced, contributed with businesses as cafes and restaurants. The economic activities are established as a complement of the transformation. The patrimonial buildings have been converted in to spaces of distraction on weekends. The frontages of the buildings are kept in good condition; however the organization of the insides varies, the typical multifamily housing in the area is being lost as walls and partitions are being thrown down. Attributes and values are revealed using the typology of values of Randall Manson and the Matrix of Nara: Technical, social, spiritual - religious, historical and aesthetic scientist. These are evaluated in the study area, which is divided into three units; it is found that some are still persistent, however some of this attributes are declining. For instance the attribute multifamily housing, is only found in one of the three units, compared to the seen brick that is in all of these. It is confirmed by this that the new use of the buildings are contrasting the conservation of values and attributes. That is why this document generates strategies that attempt to recover these elements; and by this it can be conserved.Item Los vehículos motorizados privados y el problema de transporte público en los centros históricos: el caso de Cuenca-Ecuador(Universidad de Cuenca, 2012-05) Moscoso Cordero, María SoledadTransport, pedestrianization and conservation are three main problems in the management of heritage cities, especially in the Latin American cities, where economic resources limit their access to sustainable transport systems. After having an overview of the problem and its causes, have been investigated solutions as well as the implementation of appropriate policies, related to the subject, in the historical centres. Likewise, we have analyzed successful cases of traffic management systems developed in cities of the world heritage in order to find solutions transferable and that they can be adapted to the context of Cuenca, one of the two cities patrimony of the humanity of the Ecuador.
