Item Efecto de la adición de maltosa y glucosa al medio de congelación sobre la viabilidad y fertilidad de espermatozoides criopreservados de gallo criollo(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-03-07) Morocho Quizhpi, Janeth Liliana; Vásquez Vallejo, Karen Victoria; Segarra Zenteno, Elías BolívarSaccharides are a source of energy for the spermatozoa, increase the osmotic pressure in the diluent and have a cryoprotective action. In the present study, the effect of the addition of glucose and maltose on the cryopreservation of semen from Criollo roosters was evaluated. For this purpose, 50 semen ejaculates were collected from 10 Creole roosters (8 – 24 months), 5 ejaculates/rooster in 5 sessions (2 sessions per week) using the “Impronta” technique, resulting in 10 pools. Each pool was immediately mixed in Lake Ravie 1:1 dilution and kept under refrigeration. The pool was divided into 3 aliquots, each aliquot was supplemented with glucose and maltose such that 3 treatments were established: (1) Glucose 0.64 % + Maltose 0.33 %, (2) Glucose 0.72 % + Maltose 0.17 %, (3) Control (no saccharides); 300 straws of 0.25 ml (100 straws/treatment) were frozen in liquid nitrogen vapors until cooled, half of these straws were used for kinematic analysis and the other half to evaluate fertility after artificial insemination in the 30 hens (10 hens/treatment) in 5 sessions. The results indicated that treatment 1 and 3 preserved sperm cryosurvival. Treatment 2 showed some advantage in viability, and acrosomal damage was similar in the three treatments. In terms of fertility, treatment 1 showed the highest percentage (76 %). In conclusion, the combination of maltose and glucose supplemented with Lake Ravie diluent did not produce the desired effect on kinematic parameters, viability and acrosomal integrity, as it did not show significant differences between treatments.
