The purpose of this project study was to determine the damage to brick masonry under service loads in typical houses in the city of Cuenca. First, three representative case studies of typical houses were analyzed: small, medium and large in the Totoracocha sector, from which five masonry typologies were selected. At the same time, several results of experimental and numerical analyses carried out by the Seismic Vulnerability research group were explored, from which the mechanical properties of bricks, mortar and concrete will be evaluated and extracted. Subsequently, micro modeling is carried out to analyze the walls, using the characteristics of the elements to identify the damage and cracking caused by service loads. The analyses allow identifying the susceptible and most vulnerable areas of the masonry, in order to propose reinforcement solutions for them. This analysis is carried out with three loading conditions established according to (NEC - SE - CG - Loads (Non-Seismic). Finally, a comparison will be made of the masonry with and without reinforcements to verify the usefulness of the confined elements as well as the cracking behavior once the masonry has been reinforced. This comparison provides information for the construction of safer elements, suggest various types of reinforcement and compare the results with the unreinforced model, optimizing reinforcement techniques and highlighting the importance of quality in tochano brick masonry.
