The purpose of reading is comprehension, which is defined as the ability to extract information from a text and associate it with prior knowledge to give meaning to what is read. In fact, the development of reading skills occurs throughout life, with the first years of school being the most important stage in which children must receive adequate support to learn to read. The general objective of this research was to evaluate the results of the intervention program with virtual modality for improving reading comprehension in elementary school students from schools in urban areas of the city of Cuenca, in the period 2022. The study had a quantitative approach, observational design, descriptive scope and cross section. Additionally, a database was available with 30 cases obtained from the project "Development of reading skills and emotional intelligence through a hybrid modality in schoolchildren from the Cuenca city". The results showed an improvement in the punctuation task (p≤.05), while the other tests did not show significant statistical differences (p ≥ .05). That is, it could not be demonstrated that after the application of the intervention program, reading comprehension skills were strengthened. It is suggested that in the future the control of variables such as the modality, the levels of commitment of the participants and the control group be considered with which the effectiveness of the program can be contrasted.
