This paper analyzes the technical, financial and environmental feasibility of implementing a solar thermal system for preheating the boiler feed water for the laboratories of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences located at the University of Cuenca (Campus Balzay). For this purpose, simulations were performed in f-chart, SAM and TRNSYS softwares, in order to compare a flat plate collector system with a evacuated tube system. As results of the technical and environmental analysis obtained from the simulation, it was concluded that the flat plate collectors reached an average temperature of 43.77 °C, with a fuel saving of 29.47% and an emission reduction of 1939.04 kgCO2Eq. On the other hand, the vacuum tubes achieved a temperature of 61.61 °C, with an annual fuel saving of 40. 45% and an emission reduction of 2660.59 kgCO2Eq. With respect to the financial analysis, both systems were not profitable when using a subsidized price of 1.75 USD/gal; however, when considering a non-subsidized price (3.53 USD/gal) the evacuated tube collectors proved to be more profitable, positioning themselves as the most appropriate option
