    Perfil epidemiológico y clínico de la intoxicación por órganos fosforados en el Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, periodo 2014-2018. Cuenca 2019.

    Background: phosphorus organ poisoning is a clinical and health problem of great relevance, especially in developing countries, due to its high morbidity and mortality. General objective: determine the epidemiological and clinical profile of phosphorus organ poisoning in patients treated at the José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital during the 2014-2018 period. Materials and methods: observational, descriptive, retrospective study. 83 clinical records of patients diagnosed with phosphorus organ poisoning that met the inclusion criteria were reviewed. A descriptive analysis was performed, for quantitative variables standard deviation and arithmetic mean were used, for qualitative frequencies and percentages. Results: the average age of 29.3 years, the age ranges of 20 to 39 years were those that most frequently became intoxicated by 30.1%, in addition 59% were men, residents in urban areas in 63.9%, state single civilians with 57.8%, primary education in 43.4% and student occupation with 33.7%. 98.8% were exposed to contact phosphorous organs at home and 51.8% was intentional. The most common clinical picture was acute intoxication in 98.8%, with a predominance of symptoms and muscarinic signs in 57.8%. 62.7% of cases were handled in an emergency and 3.6% of people died. Conclusions: most poisonings occur in young adults, with autolytic attempts being the main cause. The predominant clinic was acute intoxication, predominantly with symptoms and muscarinic signs.
