This descriptive and correlational study has a quantitative approach. This research is based on the need to identify the acceptance dimension -parental rejection for the positive exercise of paternity. The objective of this research was to determine how the dimensions of affection, rejection, and parental control relate to family typologies, age, gender and level of education of parents. The Rohner Parent Parq/Control survey was applied to 569 parents, whose children attend public and private schools of Cuenca, from first to seventh grade, and the Rohner & Khaleque Parent Parq/Control questionnaire (2005) was applied. In the statistical analysis, in addition to descriptive values, nonparametric statistical tests were used. The results indicated that parents fromCuenca to frequently display affection and control, and barely express indifference, aggression and rejection. Also, it was found that affection and indifference do not depend on gender, age or level of education of parents. In addition, the study revealed that aggression, rejection and control are more common in parents who are under 36 years old. Parents that only attended primary school tend to express more control than the rest. Furthermore, affection is mostly displayed in nuclear families, whereas aggression, indifference, rejection and control are present in all the studied families. In conclusion, regardless of sociodemographic factors, most parents manifest acceptance, affection and control towards their children

Parental acceptance-rejection, a dimension linked to child personality traits, is a construct studied both in the Interpersonal Acceptance-Rejection Theory (IPARTheory) developed by Rohner, and in the Model of Joint Construction. IPARTheory states that socialization is predicated on the child’s sense of acceptance-rejection emanating from the parents or other attachment figures. The Model of Joint Construction shows that parent-child relationships are bidirectional and that parenting behaviors are non-linear. A total of 569 parents, whose children attend public and private schools in Cuenca, from first to seventh grade, participated in this study. For the statistical analysis, age, sex, birth order, and behavior of their children were analyzed in order to assess their relation to the dimensions of affection, rejection and parental control. Overall, the results indicated that parents tend to see themselves as affectionate and highly controlling. Parental aggressiveness is more common towards male children (m=8.77) compared to female children (m=8.36). On the other hand, parental control is more common towards female children (m=16.0) compared to male children (m=15.4). With regards to birth order, the findings revealed that there tends to be less affection and more indifference shown towards the middle child. Furthermore, age in and of itself did not seem to substantially influence the dynamics of affection, rejection and parental control.

Caracterización del razonamiento lógico-matemático entre estudiantes de ciclos de nivelación preuniversitarios
(2017) Mendieta Vanegas, Esteban Bolivar; Mora Oleas, Janeth Catalina
Evaluating logical-mathematical reasoning is complex, including its own definition; however, this parameter has been used by several instances, especially educational, when applying selective processes, such as entry to universities. In this context, the present study sought to characterize this type of reasoning in students of pre-university leveling cycles, noting that at the time of application the program was still in force, which was formally eliminated from the University of Cuenca in September 2016. For The application of the study was based on the theoretical proposals of Jean Piaget, characteristics such as combinatorial, proportions, mechanical equilibrium, probability, reference systems and propositional operations, were expressed in a set of non-standard problems, an instrument developed by the researchers Guillermina Waldeg and Mercedes de Agüero, whose use was authorized for the present investigation. The study was descriptive and relational, of quantitative type, based on primary information collected through the application of the above mentioned battery, to 416 leveling students of the University of Cuenca, from September 2015 to January 2016, distributed in the areas: technical, social and health. From the analysis we found a significant difference in the results, according to the training area, being the technical area the one of better performance. The data analysis was based on Pearson's "chi-square" test statistic, and for the case of mean percentages, Kruskal-Wallis, statistical obtained using the SPSS-V20 statistical software, was applied. In the present study, a significance of 5% was established.

(2013) Defas Toledo, Vilma Lorena; Mora Oleas, Janeth Catalina
The proposal was to develop specific resources and materials for application in the classroom, in order to optimize the learning of the equation of the straight line and the circle. The teaching resources used were: GeoGebra software and PowerPoint slides, as to the specific material, wood and adhesive fomix built: strips to represent the straight line, circles of different diameters, puzzle sheets and the Cartesian plane. The project was developed in three months, each activity required two class periods forty minutes each. The student's classroom work was supported by the guide called "Learning Activity Book", which also included a self-assessment to encourage students to reflect on their own learning. Meanwhile the teacher continually evaluated teaching-learning process of the topics discussed, using the technique of observation and recording on a checklist specific material usage. Additionally assessment instruments were designed for inclusion in extra-class activities and class that allowed the teacher evaluation: the understanding of knowledge, development and practical application processes to solve real life problems. The implementation of this proposal favored the active participation of students in learning the equation of the straight line and the circle.

Our work is headed for the study of the structure and services rendered the Departments of Counseling and Student Wellness DOBES well as the characteristics of the staff that they worked. The study was descriptive, retrospective and mainly quantitative. Since the expedition of the Ley Orgánica de de Educación Intercultural in January 2011, are the Departments of Student Counseling responsible for the organization and welfare of the students. In the absence of regulations for the organization and operation from 2011 until July 2014, it went through a transition phase in which the Departments of Student Counseling operated under the Regulation of Educational and Vocational Guidance and Student Welfare 1990, supported ministerial resolutions on specific issues. For those reasons the study also analyzed information for that period. By its retrospective nature, we applied as a methodological technique the historical technique, we review to documentary sources that each of the institutions investigated had, the survey also was applied, based on forms developed for the purpose. The investigation allowed described the Educational Psychologist performance through quantification of services and projects developed DOBES from 2009 to January 2011 and the Student Counseling since February 2011 until now. It is supplemented with details on the characteristics of the staff and the conditions under which they operate in that department.

Estrategias docentes y rendimiento académico de matemáticas, contexto previo al ingreso a la Universidad en el Ecuador, 2015
(2016) Espinosa Armijos, Johanna Marilú; Mora Oleas, Janeth Catalina
This current paper proposes to analyze the strategies that teachers use when teaching Mathematics and their relationships with the academic performance in the leveling area of the Economics and Administrative Sciences Faculty at the University of Cuenca; the theoretical basis corresponds to the Behaviorist and Constructivist paradigms. They participated four teachers and 178 students from the previous mentioned academic area in which a sampling was applied for convenience, considering the individuals who were present at the time of the survey application, the same ones that corresponded to a sampling error of 3%. A questionnaire of 23 items was applied in order to collect data, in a Likert scale, adapted from Salicetti et al (2013), for teachers and students, and it recorded a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.93. Classes visits were also performed, and a non-participant observation guide was used. In addition, a review of the syllabus through a guide analysis was made which included 13 items. Statistical validation tests were applied for the information processing, such as Kolmogorov Smirnov, Shapiro Wilk, Kruskal Wallisand Mann Whitney’s U. It was found that teachers apply the eclectic teaching strategies, which are from predominating constructivist paradigms. The student’s perception revealed that the teacher’s role and the schemes used in class possess constructivist tendencies, but without the use of resources. In addition, the group of students who obtained a higher academic achievement required a teacher who was known for implementing eleven differentiating strategies, ten and one with constructivist and behavioral approach correspondingly.

Estrategias metodológicas para el aprendizaje de medida en los estudiantes del 10mo “D” de educación básica del colegio Daniel Córdova Toral
(2014) González Prado, María Rosario; Mora Oleas, Janeth Catalina
With the purpose to develop the nominated skills stated in the document “Updating and Strengthening Curriculum for the Tenth year of Basic Education,” the present research work has been designed and implemented methodological strategies for the teaching-learning process of the measurement. The strategies encompass length measurements, converting units of length in the English and International Systems, perimeter calculation and areas. This also includes measurement of angles in the sexagesimal and circular system. The strategies were developed on the basis of the Constructivism and Cognitivist teaching approaches of Piaget, Vigotscky and Ausubel, as well as on the proposals of Godino, Chamorro Batanero and Roar among other authors. In order to learn measurement effectively, a sequence is proposed. This sequence considers the knowledge construction processes which start with guided activities. They use concrete material, measuring instruments, real situations measures, and estimated activities for length and angle measures. The strategies were implemented through workshops. An application guide for teachers was also designed. It consists of material for the student, and observation guides to evaluate the skills. The last ones allow teachers to apply the observation technique with its corresponding matching list. The results (the descriptive analysis) after the implementation of the project, showed a positive value/outcome with respect to the applied strategies and the students´academic improvement.

Estrategias que utilizan los estudiantes para la resolución de un problema matemático y su incidencia en el rendimiento académico
(2018) Albán Alcívar, Jhonny Alfredo; Mora Oleas, Janeth Catalina
Mathematics is a fundamental discipline of the curriculum at all levels of regular education, its learning is essential for the development of logical and critical thinking, and interpret and solve mathematical problems, increasingly complex; and, all this, due to the growing importance of this science in all spheres of social development. The students of the first cycle of the Academic Unit of Agricultural Sciences, of the Technical University of Machala, province of El Oro, Ecuador, who study the careers of Agronomic Engineering, Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, Aquaculture Engineering and Agricultural Economics presented difficulties in the resolution of Mathematical problems, which generated the need to perform the present research, which aims to describe the mathematical problem solving strategies used by students and their relationship with academic performance. The study responds to a non-experimental methodological design with a quantitative approach, with a sample composed of 110 students, for which a test-type test and observation card were used as techniques for the collection of information, based on a questionnaire with two mathematical and perception problems, built ad hoc for research. As results, some levels of procedures used by the students were identified as resolution strategies, based on the reading and comprehension processes, planning, resolution, execution and evaluation of the procedure for the correction and logical interpretation of the response obtained. Among the main strategies identified for solving problems are the reading repetition of the statements, transcription of the problem in words and common examples, use of underlining and reading and writing, strategic manipulation of unknowns and informative data, procedural schematization, use of arithmetic, graphing, logical verification and search for alternative answers. The incidence of the strategies determined an efficiency in the academic performance for the solution of the mathematical problems.

(2016) Mora Oleas, Janeth Catalina; Shephard Trujillo, Blanche Silia; Ordóñez Ordóñez, Miriam Carlota
Cross-Sectional Research: Bullying Associated Variables. INTRODUCTION: Bullying is a multicausal psychosocial phenomenon, the objective of this study was to identify contextualized variables that influence settings of bullying. METHODS: This is a correlational observational cross-sectional descriptive study in which two educational institutions from the city of Cuenca-Ecuador were included. A questionnaire about bullying and mistreatment was applied to students, the instrument had prior validation. Inferential statistics were used for data analysis. RESULTS: 885 students from second to ninth year of basic general education were part of the study. Similar frequency and prevalence of bullying was found in boys and girls. In terms of age group a higher percentage of casualties in children aged 7, 8 and 9 was found; just as direct manifestations: physical damage to the other’s property and relational (rejection) was presented with the highest incidence in younger children. Verbal aggression characterized the harassment in children of 10 years and older. The predominant family type in victims, perpetrators and spec¬tators was the nuclear family; family environment was perceived by children as favorable. The school teacher was perceived as a member of the educational community that stops bullying situations. CONCLUSIONS: Some contextualized variables were identified and associated with the presen¬ce of bullying: a) age, showing that young had greater presence of direct physically bullying, damage to the other’s property and relational bullying (verbal is inherent of older children); b) the family system is characterized in providing the child academic support, communication channels and recreational spaces, however the presence of violent interaction patterns is evi¬dent; c) the school system, in which students perceive teachers as change agents. There was no important incidence of sex in bullying setting up.

Evaluación de los estilos educativos familiares en la ciudad de Cuenca
(2015) Palacios Madero, María Dolores; Villavicencio Alvarado, Luis Fernando; Mora Oleas, Janeth Catalina
According to Baumrind, a 20th century clinical and developmental psychologist well known for her research on parenting styles, a distinction can be made between three styles of family education. Based on her work a project was initiated to characterize the educational style of the parents and single mothers of the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, and to unravel and characterize the educational strategies they apply. The study population consisted of 445 randomly selected parents of 6-7 year old children attending the second year of basic education at one of the 19 public and private urban schools. Factor analysisindicatedthat the education styles of the families can be classified in the three educational style classes defined by the classical theory, respectively the authoritarian, the democratic and the permissive. Additionally, results of the cluster analysis revealedthat: (i) the undefined educational style predominates;(ii) parents/mothersalternateeducational strategiesof the threestyles, with a trend towarddemocraticeducational practices;(iii) no dominanteducational style isappliedaccording toBaumrind’stheory; and(iv) ample opportunityexiststo investigate theeducational trendsof parents/mothers. Based onthese findingsthe implementation ofparent education programsis recommended to improvethenurturing and developmentof children.

Factores socioeconómicos, factores escolares y aptitud numérica en estudiantes que reciben formación preuniversitaria
(2018) Tapia Olvera, Nelson Estuardo; Mora Oleas, Janeth Catalina
The purpose of this paper was to find the socioeconomic and school factors that are related to the development of numerical aptitude in students who receive prior training to access higher education, under the sustenance of the ecological theory of Bronfenbrenner. A non-probabilistic sampling was used for convenience, 239 students participated in the "Nicolás Copérnico" pre-university center in the city of Cuenca, with a sampling error of 1.92%. Three instruments were used for the collection of information: context survey, numerical aptitude test and the Honey - Alonso learning styles questionnaire. The latter had an internal consistency at a global level of .703, measured by Cronbach's alpha; and greater than .5 for each style (active = .527, reflective = .538, theoretical = .587, pragmatic = .503). The multiple regression was performed using the ordinary least squares method, whose value of the coefficient of determination (R2) was .407, at a level of significance of 5% for the Fisher test. The variables that presented a statistically significant relationship with the performance in the numerical aptitude were: sex, years of schooling of the head of household, school morning, theoretical learning style, average grade in the baccalaureate and head of household belonging to the scientific group and intellectual (classified according to your main occupation)
