(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-12-07) Montesdeoca Tapia, Jacqueline Anabel; Torres Lazo, María Elisa; Bravo Muñoz, Marx Italo
Background: the patient's predisposition towards oncoplastic breast reconstruction surgery can be variable, in some cases it can take a long time, leading to the chronification of the cancer with the consequent economic, family and health system impact of the country, therefore it is important to study this topic. Objective: Determine the predisposition towards oncoplastic surgery and its associated factors in breast cancer patients of SOLCA Cuenca, from August to October 2023. Methodology: The research is analytical, transversal and quantitative. Data was collected using an ad-hoc questionnaire validated by experts. A statistic descriptive analysis was conducted, by absolute and relative frequencies (percentage), central tendency measures (median) and dispersion (standard deviation). To analyze the relationship between the predisposition to oncoplastic surgery and the factors studied, the OR with 95% CI and the significance of p < 0.05 was obtained using Chi square. Results: The study predominantly included ages between 36-65, high school education, married, medium socioeconomic level, urban residency, and mestizo ethnicity. The predominant stage of the illness was severe. Data showed a predominant lack of predisposition to the oncoplastic reconstruction surgery. The most common reasons were the economic aspect and the fear. On the other hand, some of the reasons for predisposition were aesthetics, self-esteem, and better image. Conclusion: the results agree with existing literature and other studies.
