The study addresses visual perception in learning, as a process that goes beyond simple observation, involving the organization, interpretation and understanding of visual stimuli. Accordingly, the following methodological objective is formulated: To provide teachers of the Cultural and Artistic Education subject with a didactic sequence for the development of visual perception in the teaching of colors and elementary shapes combined with basic mathematical elements to students in the fourth grade of General Basic Education. The concept of visual-perceptual learning by Zhong-Lin (2009) is highlighted, which can be improved through practice and training. The research is based on a bibliographic systematization of scientific sources that address visual perception and its development in the formative process. Texts published between 1970 and 2023 were reviewed in databases such as: documents assigned by teachers of the ECA master's degree, digital library and institutional repository of the University of Cuenca, Open Access Repository Network of Ecuador (RRAAE) and Google Scholar. Curricular documents from MINEDUC (2016) and the institutional documents from the “Manuela Garaicoa de Calderón” Educational Unit were also considered. As a main result, a didactic sequence is designed for the development of visual perception in the teaching of colors and elementary shapes combined with basic mathematical elements for children between 8 and 9 years old. The didactic proposal represents an innovative and interdisciplinary approach to artistic teaching; it transcends the traditional limits of the ECA, integrating contemporary pedagogical approaches that promote the integral development of students.
