Uso de la bicicleta como medio de movilidad sostenible en la ciudad de Cuenca
(2017) Mendieta Armijos, Karen Gabriela; León Jaramillo, Mateo Francisco; Chuquiguanga Auquilla, María Cristina
According to Black, (2000) “the problems associated with motorized transport such as traffic congestion and pollution have given guidelines to find new sustainable transport systems that avoid fuel consumption, minimize environmental impact, avoid car accidents and have a manageable traffic”. Due to these issues concepts of sustainable mobility have been developed, which includes three principles such as to avoid long and unnecessary motorized travels, change the trend of growth in motor vehicle travel and improve technology and operational management of transport activities. In the city of Cuenca the use of private vehicles is a topic that has generated great debates, the Autonomous Government Decentralized Municipal de Cuenca has undertaken a new planning process with specific projects such as the implementation of bicycle lanes and future implementation of the tram However, the level of use of the bicycle lanes is low. In this context is intented to provide a set of guidelines for planning of bicycle lanes in the city of Cuenca that contributes to building a sustainable mobility. For this purpose a theoretical and legal framework was developed as the base for the elaboration of a diagnostic with primary information through population surveys which identified the causes and factors that determine the level of bicycle used as mode of transportation, as well as the aspirations of the population to adopt an alternative mobility.
