Item Valoración del efectode la intervención educativa en relación al conocimiento de la neurocisticercosis en agricultores de la Parroquia San Joaquín en el año 2014(2015) Cajamarca Bermeo, Anabel Gabriela; Garay Cevallos, Ana Belén; Machado Campoverde, Adriana Carolina; Díaz Heredia, Favian Eduardo; Parra Parra, Jorge LeonidasBackground: Neurocysticercosis (NCC) has represented a serious public health problem in developing countries, remain important causes of morbidity and mortality and economic losses. In Ecuador 10% of seizures are caused by the presence of cysticerci in the brain of the patient. In the province of Azuay, 13.9% of the population is engaged in agriculture according to the last census of 2010, several of them are concentrated in San Joaquin, parish of the canton Cuenca, one of the main centers of supply of vegetables, with these the main forms of pollution of the disease. Objective: Assess the impact of an educational intervention in San Joaquin farmers on the prevention of neurocysticercosis by consuming contaminated food, by improving knowledge, attitudes and practices and evaluations before and after the intervention, in 2014. Methodology: We used a Exploratory study with an educational intervention, the universe is 1260 farmers obtaining a sample of 295 people. Surveys were administered pre and post educational intervention. The tabulation of the data was the Epi Info and Excel for analysis and measures of central tendency and percentages were used. Results: The results of the first survey used to determine the initial knowledge of farmers and the second survey to determine the training they have received. Subsequently the final results will be disseminated in the community. In our study initially one 62.71% of respondents reported having heard of neurocysticercosis after surgery, the percentage rises to 93.22%. 34.92% reported knowledge that cysticerci are found in pork, with only 28.14% before the intervention. Before the intervention 61.02% reported always wash hands before going out to eat, this number rises to 71.86% after it. 58.31% reported washing hands with soap and water before and after the intervention she 70.51%.
