Determinación de la capacidad aeróbica en los basquetbolistas de la “Escuela de Baloncesto Henko”. Azogues. Septiembre 2025 - febrero 2026
(Universidad de Cuenca. Facultad de Ciencias Médicas, 2026-02-20) Sánchez Cárdenas, Nuriam Maricela; Luzuriaga Andrade, Victor Estuardo; Cárdenas León, Verónica Vanessa
Background: Basketball is a sport that requires an adequate physical development, since it involves the integration of various physiological systems, such as the circulatory, cardiac, muscular, and metabolic systems. Being the respiratory system the one that plays the fundamental role due to the high demand for oxygen consumption caused by the repeated actions of sport, which highlights the importance of an adequate aerobic capacity in these athletes. Objective: Determine the aerobic capacity through the Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test level 1, in the athletes of the Henko basketball school during the period of September 2025 - February 2026. Methodology The study was descriptive, observational, and cross-sectional in nature. The sample consisted of players from the Henko basketball school, whose ages ranged from 12 to 22 years, and who were administered the Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test level 1. Results The study presented that they have a low aerobic capability, mainly in the “poor” and “lower than average” categories, according to the test. It was a general observation in both sexes, in the different age groups and positions of play. No direct association was found between aerobic capacity and variables such as sex, age, body mass index, or playing position. Although the players with greater training time showed a light improvement in the aerobic performance, it can be seen that there must be an improvement in training to enhance aerobic capacity.
