Objective: To determine the frequency of the incidental finding of renal pathology in ultrasound and computerized axial tomography (CAT) of abdomen reports in the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital of the city of Cuenca. 2014. Methodology: Prospective descriptive quantitative study by reviewing 2041 CAT scans and ultrasound reports in search of patients with incidental finding of renal pathology, the study period was extended for 6 months (September 2014 – February 2015) and after the collection and validation of information a database was created in version 18 of SPSS, after this the statistical analysis based on relative frequencies and percentages was done; the value of Chi-square for association and the p for statistical significance was used for the comparative study between CAT scan and ultrasound. Results: Data from 2041 patients who had a CAT scan or abdomen ultrasound was revised, from this population 7,8% was done throughout a CAT scan and 92,2% with ultrasound; the average age of the patients was 38 years old ± 22 years old, being the female sex the most numerous, the overall frequency of incidental finding stood in 5,9% (120 cases) from which the 19,2% were CAT scan and 80% for ultrasound; renal lithiasis was the most frequent diagnosis with 47,5%. We found that the frequency of incidental findings was higher in the population between ages 20-40 years old with 6.9% and 5.9% on female patients. Conclusions: The frequency of incidental finding of renal pathology was 5.9% where renal lithiasis was the most frequent.
