    Valoración del bajo peso, sobrepeso y obesidad en la Escuela Carlos Cueva Tamariz Cuenca 2010

    Determine the prevalence of underweight, overweight and obesity in children aged between 6 and 13 years, of Carlos Cueva Tamariz School, from Canton Cuenca, to intervene on them, promoting surveillance activities, nutritional counseling and food security for a healthy growth and development. Materials and methods: We performed a cross-sectional study of prevalence of malnutrition among children from Carlos Cueva Tamariz School. The universe is made up of 292 children registered in September 2009. The sample according to the formula applied is 75 children between the second and seventh year of basic education. Research techniques: The interview was to parents of school children. • The measurement technique anthropometric control. Instruments used: • BMI tables body mass index. • The growth curves of the NCHS. • Form socioeconomic survey. The data were processed and analyzed using Microsoft Office Word and Excel. The research results will be delivered to Carlos Cueva Tamariz School. The total cost of research is estimated at $ 1070. According to data from the nutritional status of 75 school children who were evaluated anthropometric: The low weight presented statistically significant data on 14.67%, 74.67% with a normal weight, 5.33% with overweight and for obesity with a similar percentage.
