Item Patrones alimentarios en la población del cantón Saraguro, Cuenca - Ecuador 2016(2017) Loyola Diaz, Gianella Marisol; Pauta Zaruma, Diana Francisca; Angulo Rosero, Aydee Narcisa; Achig Balarezo, David RicardoBackground: the present investigation was carried out to determine the food patterns in the inhabitants of Saraguro; the unit of analysis is the family, responsible for developing eating habits influenced by factors such as customs handed down from generation to generation, geographical location, availability of food and how to eat them. Objective: To identify dietary patterns in families in Saraguro. Methodology: This is a quantitative, cross-sectional descriptive study in which the universe is composed of all the families of Saraguro, the sample was calculated using the formula with infinite universe, obtaining 150 heads of family and were drawn in the program EPIDAT 3. The data was obtained by means of food consumption frequency surveys and a 24-hour reminder. SPSS and Microsoft Excel were used to create a database for tabulation and analysis. Results: 80% were men and 20% women with father and mother roles, respectively. The average age of respondents was 58.8 ± 4.2 years. More than half of the respondents, 84.7%, 77.3% and 64% consume maize, cheese and milk two to three times per day respectively. The average calories of the sample studied was 2349.38 ± 419.23 kcal daily. Conclusion: the dietary patterns of the population of Saraguro are marked by balanced and nutritious diets that are found within the nutritional pyramid
