Item Obtención de carbón activado a partir de la cáscara de coco “Cocos Nucífera L”(2018) Carrasco Tito, Blanca Steffanía; Londa Veletanga, Erika Gabriela; Espinoza Gárate, Juan DiegoIn the present work, chemical activation was carried out to obtain activated carbon from the coconut endocarp "Cocos nucifera L". The raw material used comes from waste generated from pulp extraction and was activated with phosphoric acid by two methods, in which it was experimented with two different concentrations, temperatures and times, the first method was carried out at a concentration of 85% Phosphoric acid at a temperature of 120 °C for 24 hours and the second method is carried out at a concentration of 40% phosphoric acid at a temperature of 300 °C for 2.5 hours. The characterization of the raw material was carried out mainly of the percentage moisture and percentage ash present, as well as the characterization of the final product evaluating parameters such as iodine value, surface area and bulk density. The BET surface area was only determined from the 40% activated carbon sample because it had a higher adsorption capacity and at the same time a high iodine value, this analysis was determined by the NOVA quantachrome2200 Surface Area and Pore Size Analyzer generating equipment a surface area value of 660.287m2 / g of activated carbon. The activated carbons obtained were used in the adsorption of residual Chlorine in drinking water, obtaining a better result in activated carbon at 40% since it was possible to reduce the chlorine concentration from 0.81ppm to 0.3ppm
