Item Frecuencia del antígeno Kell en donantes del banco de sangre del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, Cuenca 2023(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-03-05) Salinas Robalino, Angel Alexander; Lojano Zhagui, Mathew Anddre; Peña Patiño, Sandra GiocondaBlood is composed of platelets, leukocytes and erythrocytes, the latter have different antigens on their surface that differentiate blood types according to phenotype. One of them is the Kell system, which is considered the third most relevant blood system due to its high capacity to produce an immune response, behind the ABO and Rh systems. The objective was to determine the frequency of the Kell antigen in donors of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital blood bank, Cuenca 2023. The study method was observational and descriptive, where data were obtained by means of a form, through the anonymized database of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital Blood Bank. The information was analyzed in simple and crossed tables with percentage values and frequencies; through the use of the statistical tool SPSS and Microsoft Excel 2021, version 2108. The study variables were: positive Kell antigen, age, sex, origin, donor type, blood type and Rh factor. The results obtained during the year 2023 in the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital Blood Bank were a frequency of 1.36% of positive cases of Kell antigen. In conclusion, the population studied presented mostly cases of positive Kell antigen in adult male donors, of compensatory type and of urban origin. This finding emphasizes the importance of Kell antigen detection within the protocoeliac protocols.
