(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-03-04) Loja Chimbo, Evelyn Karina; Arias Pallaroso, Francisco Alexander
The objective of the research is to analyze the factors associated with the intention to drop out of first cycle students of the Faculty of Jurisprudence of the University of Cuenca, September 2023-February 2024. The research has a quantitative approach, with an explanatory, descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional and non-experimental design. It seeks to identify the sociodemographic characteristics and factors associated with the intention to drop out. The study population are students who are making their first enrollment in the different subjects in course, a probabilistic sample of simple random type known to 93% confidence and 7% error was made with a total of 97 students surveyed. The analysis by means of the Chi-square relationship at the micro level identified that the support of parents or guardians in the university career and the emotional support given by classmates are factors that are related to the intention to drop out. At the meso level, 2 factors were identified that are associated with the intention to drop out of the students, which are: the student's motivation to pursue a university career and the sense of belonging to the university community. Based on the results, it is recommended to propose interventions and strategies for student retention.
