    Factores de riesgo de hipoglicemia sintomática en pacientes con diabetes mellitus ingresados en el Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, Cuenca 2012

    Under physiological conditions, glucose has a critical role in providing energy to the central nervous system. Hypoglycemia is a common side effect of treatment with insulin or sulfonylureas in diabetics. Fear of hypoglycemia and the development of syndromes such as hypoglycemia unawareness and poorcounter pose additional difficulties intensified antidiabetic treatment (1) Method and materials. A prevalence study, descriptive cross sectional in which 215 diabetic patients treated at the Hospital Jose Carrasco Arteaga in Cuenca city at 2012 were included collecting information from the database of the Department of Statistics and so was conducted identify the association of hypoglycemia with the following risk factors: age, sex, treatment received and Diabetic Complication Concomitant. Results. It was found in our study that the majority of patients experiencing hypoglycemia was over 60 female, with a percentage of30.99% and28.12%respectively.Regarding the treatment received by patients, most of who have been taken hypoglycemia treatment with oral agents with a percentage of 61.05%. We further note that based on concomitant diabetic complications most patients experiencing hypoglycemia are diabetic neuropathy presenting with a percentage of36.84%. Conclusion Most diabetic patients who have hypoglycemia are the major female sex 60 years. Furthermore, in these patients, most who presented hypoglycemia are those who have received treatment for diabetes, specifically oral agents.
