The present work is an experimental study that applies the refraction seismic method to find a relation between the main seismic wave velocities (P), the secondary seismic velocities (S) and the physical properties of a sandy ground - slimy. A soil sample was obtained from the site known as "La Unión" in the canton of Chordeleg, province of Azuay; Laboratory tests were carried out under the AASHTO standards to corroborate that the soil meets sand - silty mechanical characteristics. Subsequently, dynamic tests were carried out modifying the physical properties of the material, recording the propagation time of P and S waves at different levels of compaction and soil moisture. Among the results achieved are: the correlation between the seismic velocities P, S and the wet density of the soil; and the correlation between the seismic velocities P, S and the moisture content of the material. Finally, it was determined that, as the density of the soil increases, the wave velocities are greater, since the reduction of soil voids causes a better transmission of waves in it; On the other hand, an increase in soil moisture affected the propagation of waves due to spaces contained in water that produce changes in the density of the material, and because the liquids do not admit cutting movements. This study aims to be an incentive to new experimental analysis by applying different methods and types of soil from the mechanical field, becoming a foundation for such purposes.
