    Trastornos alimentarios en adolescentes del Colegio La Providencia de la ciudad de Azogues, 2010-2011

    Objective: To identify the prevalence of disorders of eating behavior in 10 to 19 years old adolescents, Of Colegio Particular Mixto “La Providencia”from Azogues, during the school year 2010-2011. Method and Materials: A kind of study quantitative descriptive of prevalence was made, to entire universe of students (556) from Providencia high school, in the academic period 2010-2011. Cases of eating disorders and the presence of risk factors, such as relatives, biological, environmental and socio-culture were identified. Data were obtained giving questionnaires to students, wich were later verified, tabulated and analyzed through tables and charts in Excel. Results: Our study shows a prevalence of eating disorders in a 3,78%, of adolescents, 2.7% are women and 1,08% are men. Also,we realized that there is a greater prevalence in 12 and 13 years old adolescents. 18,35% presented some risk factor for eating disorders, relatives and environmental factor predominated with a 61,03%, but only a 2,88% have any kind of disorder. There was a tendency of increased risk of disordered eating behavior in 12 and 13 years old adolescents (4,14% for each one) and the urban area. In relation to body mass index we could observe that the 64,21% is within the normal range, while a 21,4% are underweight, a 13,49% have overweight and a 0,9% presents obesity
