The main objective of this research is to answer why an organization, in spite of having current ISO 9001: 2015 and IATF 16949: 2016 certifications, does not achieve its quality objectives in terms of control over the generation of nonconforming products (waste). For this purpose, the similarity and complementarity between ISO 9001: 2015 and IATF 16949: 2016 were analyzed by means of a GAP analysis, We also investigated the activities planned within the framework of the Quality Management System (QMS) and based on the standards implemented and their compliance with the requirements demanded by the aforementioned standards, both in their planning and execution, where a notable gap was observed between these two categories, since it became clear that the execution of plans and activities framed in the QMS did not always occur as planned. With these first particularities observed in the case study, the company's own data were collected and semi-structured interviews were conducted, which yielded the following conclusions; There is a generalized perception of a lack of leadership and supervision to follow up on the planned activities focused on waste generation, as well as a generalized opinion about a lack of motivation, commitment and discipline to carry out the activities according to plan, and finally, the common idea that time is the main limiting factor to execute the activities according to plan.
