Thirty premolar and third molar teeth were selected for this in vitro study and class V cavities were prepared on the lingual and buccal surface. Adhesive Adper Single Bond (3M ESPE) in buccal cavity and Gc G- Bond (Gc Corp) in lingual cavity was applied and all of them were restored with a light cure resin composite, Valux Plus A3 (3M ESPE). The samples were exposed to dye penetration with methylene blue 2% for 24 hours and then microleakage was evaluated under optic microscope. To analyze microleakeage was used a qualitative method with a 0 to 3 scale. Data were analyzed by unpaired t-test. There was significant difference in dye penetration (P = 0.033) between the two adhesive systems; with lower values presented by self-etch adhesives. Within the limiting factors of this in vitro study, it was concluded that the use of this adhesive system might increase marginal seal against fifth generation systemsItem Análisis de las conductas y normas de bioseguridad en la facultad de Odontología(2002) Lima Machuca, Diego Patricio; Lafebre Carrasco, Milton FabricioItem Atrición dental severa y sus factores asociados: un estudio de casos y controles(2019-12-11) Astudillo Ortíz, Jaime Leonardo; Lafebre Carrasco, Milton FabricioBACKGROUND: Severe attrition is a type of dental wear caused by friction of tooth surfaces with each other. Although it is a frequent condition, it is not known what are the factors associated with its appearance. Objective: To relate factors such as: age, sex, origin, number of residual teeth, salivary pH and bruxism, with severe dental attrition. Design: cases and controls Patients: a total of 237 patients, 79 cases, with dental attrition grades 2, 3 and 4 according to the Smith and Knight index and 158 controls, with attrition grades 0 and 1. A clinical and photographic analysis was performed to determine the relationship between Dental attrition and factors such as age, sex, origin, number of residual teeth, salivary pH and bruxism. RESULTS: After a bivariate analysis, it was observed that patients older than 25 years (OR = 2.47 CI = 1.41 - 4.35 X2 = 10.21 p = 0.001), with less than 20 residual teeth in the mouth (OR = 4.95 CI = 1.47 - 16.62 X2 = 7.97 p = 0.004) and with bruxism (OR = 2.64 CI = 1.45 - 4.81 X2 = 10.49 p = 0.001), Are more likely to have severe dental attrition. After a binary logistic regression, the statistically significant relationship of these factors with severe dental attrition was confirmed. Conclusions: Severe dental attrition has a statistically significant relationship with age, number of residual teeth in the mouth and bruxism.Item Bioseguridad en operatoria y endodoncia(2001) Izquierdo León, Martha; Lafebre Carrasco, Milton FabricioItem Burnout en los estudiantes de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Cuenca matriculados en los periodos 2022-2023(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-10-13) Guapacasa Sopla, Daysi Alexandra; Méndez Calle, Christian Geovanny; Lafebre Carrasco, Milton Fabricio; Morocho Malla, Manuel IsmaelBurnout is a chronic and prolonged stress syndrome characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced personal performance. To reduce the risk of suffering from these diseases, effective control of bacterial plaque is necessary through toothbrush. This study is a cross section descriptive type and the main objective was to describe the characteristics of toothbrush in pregnant women attending the Pablo Jaramillo Crespo Humanitarian Foundation Clinic in the city of Cuenca. The sample consisted of 153 pregnant women who met both, inclusion and exclusion criteria. The duration and type of movement performed by the patients was assessed using a regular brushing recording and additionally the oral hygiene index of O'Leary was performed. After these processes, the results obtained showed that the majority of patients performed horizontal movements during toothbrush and the length was of 65.78 seconds in average. Therefore, the oral hygiene index turned out to be deficient, indicating the lack of knowledge for a good oral hygiene within this group of priority attentionItem Comparison of the HU-DBI index between areas of health sciences and other areas of the University of Cuenca, 2016(2018) Lafebre Carrasco, Milton Fabricio; Reinoso Carrasco, Julieta Del carmen; Serrano Delgado, Clara Yamilet; Cobos Carrera, Diego Fernando; Torracchi Carrasco, Aldo MateoThe University is the place where the students learn and develop skills that will allow them to pursue an occupation, and at the same time improve their attitudes, health skills, that allow them to have healthy living habits and lifestyle. The majority of students are of the urban origin with 82,8% and the vast majority are single (7125 students=91,4%). The average of the HU-DBI index is 6,06 with a DS±1,81 and a variance of 3,27. There is a better index of the students of health science compared with the students of other areas. Comparing them with the dental students and the others of the health sciences, dental students who had no clinical contact with patients didn’t have any difference from those of the other health sciences, but the students who have had the clinical contact with patients have a statistically significant difference with the other students of health sciences.Item Comportamiento en salud oral según el índice hiroshima university dental behavior inventory (hu-dbi) aplicado a los estudiantes de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Cuenca del ciclo lectivo marzo 2022 - agosto 2022(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-09-30) Buele Lanchi, Cristopher Oswaldo; Tinoco Arévalo, Juan Pablo; Lafebre Carrasco, Milton FabricioBackground: oral diseases are an important public health problem, which are related to general health, so students must be well trained to provide promotion, prevention, care and recovery to the population to achieve oral health. During periodontal disease and COVID-19, an inflammatory response is generated. This immune response, present in the two diseases, generates an over-production of inflammatory cytokines that can harm the patient’s health. Conclusion: The mouth serves as the entryway for many microorganisms that can harm health in general, among them SARS-CoV-2. It is important to maintain good oral health to lower the inflammatory load present during periodontal disease, lessening the possibility of presenting complications during COVID-19.
