A photo-podoscope is a useful tool for assessing a footprint; it is performed by observing the supporting areas of the foot in standing position. This evaluation and diagnosis generally is made by a specialist, and without leaving medical evidence for future comparisons. Generally, this evaluation is made based on the form of the footprint by using a traditional podoscope or rudimentary process which carries several disadvantages. We present, a medical alternative equipment called JHECA NAWE photo-podoscope. This equipment allows assessment of a footprint in a fast an effective way with accurate diagnoses, including a record for future evaluations. Commercial equipment is expensive, reason why medical specialists prefer to use rudimentary processes. In order to evaluate clinically the effectiveness of JHECA NAWE, we analyzed a cross-sectional of attended patients by using this equipment in comparison with different medical specialist opinion.

Grid computing is a recent and innovative technology; recently it has been used for designing teleradiology systems. Grid computing enables the integration and collaborative use of high performance computers, networks and databases, suitable for developing a teleradiology system. In this work we present a solution based on grid computing for a teleradiology system. This infrastructure allows accessing and exchanging of medical images stored physically located in different repositories like; hospitals and diagnostic imaging centers. Globus Toolkit (v6.0) is used as an intermediate communication program in this grid infrastructure. Images are stored in local repositories managed and handled by servers PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), usually used in workstations of the medical imaging centers. The main contribution in this paper is the design of a grid infrastructure for searching purposes either semantic or visual content, with greater emphasis on the integration of data security, user authentication while maintaining patient confidentiality.

This paper present a framework ontology-independent for the automatic semantic annotation of medical images. The automatic annotation is done by (a) semantifying of DICOM medical images (RDF-ization) automatically; (b) Integration of different biomedical ontologies, through the matching process between ontologies and DICOM metadata, making this approach ontology-independent; (c) segmentation and visualization of annotated data which is further used to generate new annotations according to expert knowledge, and validation. Additionally applying context based image retrieval, make possible the retrieval of medical imaging by similarity of images features. This platform is being built on a distributed architecture, which improve the way of classification, distribution and searching on image repository.
