    Prevalencia del distrés y factores asociados en los esudiantes de la Escuela de Medicina de la Universidad de Cuenca, 2011

    Objective: To determine the prevalence of distress and its association with risk factors in university students from the School of Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Cuenca. Method and Materials: prevalence study, school year in September 2010 to July 2011. The sample comprised the universe N = 876, confidence level of 95%. For the removal of the data we used a previously validated questionnaire, statistical analysis with SPSS version 15.00 Evaluation. Results: The prevalence of distress in this population is 84.4%, 10.4% of students have a high level of distress. 65.1% of the students affected are located in the range up to 22 years of age, sex is predominantly female with 60.7%, grade repetition is 11.1%, students who live alone are an 10.3% working students represent 5.4% of students with immigrant father and mother represent 2.5%, in addition to this we have: 3.4% of the participants have a serious family dysfunction, 3 , 2% of respondents always appreciate the demands and stressors in the environment, 4.6% always have physical reactions when they have psychological and behavioral distress, 7.6% always have strategies to cope with distress. Conclusions: The prevalence of distress in this population is 84.4%, 10.4% of students who have high levels of distress
