    This is to establish the real parameters of existing morbidity and mortality in the area of ​​surgery HVCM in 2001-2003; for which conducted a descriptive study in which they determined the 10 leading causes of mortality in the surgery department during the period mentioned, for both men and women separately. It was developed to collect data and information in 4122 was collected medical records, which were processed in Epi-info program. Of all these forms two thousand six hundred fifty-eight have been considered to be within the top ten causes of morbidity for men and women. The 10 leading causes were 22 fractures, hernias 16.2, 15.2 appendicitis, cholecystitis 11.3, bruising 10 benign prostatic hyperplasia 6.6 5.6 head trauma, acute abdomen 4.9, 3.3 injuries 4.9y burns. In the femeninoi sex the 10 leading causes were cholecystitis 41.2, appendicitis 3.1, hernias 12 fractures 10.1 varices 6.5, acute abdomen 3.1, bruising 2.2, tumors 2.2, chronic two otitis media, abscesses 2. After reviewing these data allow us to recommend studies in other hospitals in the province that allow us to meet this level the causes of morbidity and mortality in surgical services
