    Expansión urbana de San Joaquín: 1990-2012

    This research deals with the expansion of San Joaquin directly related to the city of Cuenca and its growth from the 1990s to the present. The investigation involves a geographic, demographic and economic description as a diagnostic which covers the conceptual part of Urban Geography and apply its themes to the studied area. Also, it poses a question about the future of this area which is already immersed in new projects that will bring on further urban development. Therefore it was concluded that the theory of models of spatial organization are inapplicable to the reality of San Joaquin and its expansion will continue in steady accretion because of its proximity to Cuenca. Moreover the introduction of new economic activities has not replaced the traditional activity, horticulture, although it seems that will happen very soon. Horticulture has been decreasing due to the fact that residential occupation has increased.
