Downtime represents a critical challenge for operational efficiency in the manufacturing industry. This study focused on the identification and reduction of downtime in the mixer area of Continental Tire Andina. The research used a mixed approach combining qualitative and quantitative analysis to evaluate the current situation and decide the causes of production line downtime. To this end, downtime was quantified through direct observations of the machines. The study found 46 main causes of downtime, of which six were selected by applying the Pareto diagram and prioritization matrix. To address a solution to these causes of downtime, suggestions and improvement strategies were proposed in different scenarios for each of the mixers using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools, which were then simulated and evaluated with the help of FlexSim software to measure their impact on the production of primary and final sheets. The results showed an increase in the number of loads produced and a reduction in the non-productive time of each of the mixers in the different scenarios proposed. The final focus of this study was to provide Continental Tire Andina with improvements to reduce non-productive time, thus improving the efficiency and productivity of the manufacturing process of these sheets.
