Communication skills are an essential resource in a teacher's work, being this a method of human interaction, its incorrect use could present difficulties when communicating ideas, expressing emotions and informing students in the classroom. In this sense, the difficulty lies basically in the fact that teachers do not achieve the proper use of communication skills. Therefore, the objective of this study was to describe the communication skills used by teachers in Unidad Educativa Sudamericano, during the period 2020-2021. The research methodology used was quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental and cross-sectional, with the participation of 43 teachers of the institution. For the collection of information, the Questionnaire (HABICOM) specific constitutes the Personal Self-Perception (PS) scale, was used to assess the perception of the daily use of their communicative skills, and a sociodemographic card that allowed characterizing the variable according to sex, age, marital status, occupation, level of higher education, years of service and years of work within the institution. Among the results, it was found that teachers self-perceived medium and almost high levels in most of the factors of communication skills, except for the empathy factor where they scored at an almost low level. It is concluded that, although the use of communication skills has been self-perceived at high levels by teachers, these could be improved, especially in the factor related to empathy skills, generating a harmonious climate in the classroom
