The Reina de la Nube neighborhood, located in the Machángara parish on the urban edge of the city of Cuenca, has historically lacked a public space that promotes community interaction and organization. In the last three years, as a result of a private land subdivision process and in compliance with municipal regulations, a plot of land was allocated for public use within the neighborhood. In response to this context, the objective of this thesis is to develop an architectural preliminary design proposal for a public space and a community center. To support the architectural proposal, a mixed- methods approach was employed, combining the collection of qualitative data through semi-structured interviews and participant observation, with quantitative data derived from site analysis. This process was complemented by a case study analysis, aimed at providing design criteria and supporting the decisions adopted in the development of the new facility. As a result, the preliminary design is conceived as a permeable architectural complex, capable of accommodating diverse cultural and sports activities, optimizing the use of both the community center and the public space, in articulation with the surrounding context and under universal accessibility criteria.
