(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-07-24) Espinoza Sarango, Michelle Estefanía; Granda Olmedo, Wendy Gimelli; Parra Parra, Jorge Leonidas
Background: breast cancer is the most common neoplasm among women worldwide, therefore, prevention and early diagnosis strategies help in timely treatment. The project proposes addressing this issue from a community perspective. Objectives: determine the knowledge and practices on breast cancer prevention in women from the Sinincay parish, Cuenca 2024. Methodology: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out with a random sample of 355 women. The questionnaire developed by Bañez Vilma Linda was used as a tool, validated by expert judgment with a validity of 0.96 (excellent). SPSS software version 24 was used to analyze the information. The results were presented in simple and contingency tables with their respective statistical analysis. Results: the majority of women subject to the study are between 25-34 years old (42,5%), are married (42.8%), have completed primary school (42%) and are housewives (47%). The level of knowledge about breast cancer prevention was medium in 80%, the level of practices was poor in 57.2% and the preventive practice that was carried out most frequently was the mother's self-examination (39,7%). Conclusion: in the parish of Sinincay, it was evident that although the vast majority of interviewees reported having medium to high knowledge about breast cancer prevention, more than half of them acknowledged carrying out bad practices.
